Garfield Heights Middle School “Panthers” Field Trip

On Tuesday December 19th we had the pleasure of having our 1st field trip of the season come down to ice skate.

Ms. Bridget Chase along with the 6th grade “Panthers” had a wonderful time up at the rink and for most it was their 1st time ever on ice skates.  With the help of Ms. Kristen Porter, Ms. Britney Funk, Mr. Ryan Schuman, Ms. Valerie Hudak, and Ms. Stephanie Czech all students walked here from the Middle School.  As luck would have it – the weather was perfect for this event and the kids enjoyed their walk along with the fresh air!

Thanks to Bella Irvine & Mylee Fruits from the Garfield Heights High School for their assistance in helping kids getting their skates on & assisting them on the ice.

2016-17 Season

Over the course of two days in chilly December , more than half of the sixth graders from Garfield Heights Middle School enjoyed a day of ice skating at the Dan Kostel Recreation Center. Students from Team Buckeyes with their teachers, Mr. Glazer, Ms. Klamer, Ms. Mastroianni, Mrs. Smith, Ms. Funk and Ms Durey attended on Monday, December 19th. Students from Team Panthers with their teachers, Mrs. Czech, Mrs. Chase, Ms.Hudak, Mrs. Porter and Mrs. Koelliker skated on Tuesday, December 20th. The ice skating field trip was a reward for students that exhibit positive behavior as part of a school wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) program. It was a great experience for the students as for some it was their 1st time ice skating.

We hope experiences like this one will introduce students to the sport of ice skating and become more involved with other programs that the recreation center has to offer year round.

Other upcoming field trips are with Creative Early Learning Center who participate in our swimming program also, Bedford Heights recreation, Garfield Heights Maple Leaf & Elmwood schools.
