The groundwork and foundation for the Garfield Heights Historical Society began in 1967 and twenty-seven years later their dream, their vision, their hope became a reality when the Historical Society Museum was established and settled in their first permanent home in 1994.

We are located at 5405 Turney Road and are open on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. St. John Lutheran Cemetery, the oldest cemetery in this area going back to 1854, is located next door to our museum.

The shelves display many old pictorial albums, old newspapers, copies of old Leaders (our neighborhood paper), historical books, Year Books from Garfield Heights High School, Maple Leaf School, Holy Name, etc., dating back to 1934 as well as many church anniversary books. Browse among our collection of antique clothing, furniture, appliances, radios, spinning wheels, toys, dolls, beaded evening bags and a working loom.

We invite you to share your memories of this area with us and share the enjoyment of our collection of a past historical era. Present-day Garfield Heights was part of the original 7-12 area surveyed by Moses Cleaveland. The 7-12 area was later called Newburg Township and in the 1820's it was larger than Cleveland.

We are proud of our beautiful Herb Garden located at the front of our museum. It is fitting to have beauty and healing linked with history.
